 When Love Comes to Town

M/M YA
Source: eARC/NetGalley for honest review

A new edition of this acclaimed novel. Meet Neil Byrne - try-scorer on the rugby field, prizewinning student, one of the in-crowd at the disco, regular guy, gay. Presenting one face to the world and burying his true feelings in fantasy, Neil manages to keep his secret. But when fantasy isn't enough and he becomes caught up in the bizarre subculture of Dublin's gay nightlife, the pretense must end. It is the time for truth. The consequences are both hilarious and painful. Told with honesty, humour and originality, When Love Comes to Town brings a new type of hero to modern Irish fiction.

My Review...

This book was a sweet coming of age book based in Ireland in the nineties where 'coming out' was not as it is today.

Neil was a sweet kid trying to find himself in a world pf pressure, expectations and judgements.  Once he starts to come out slowly and realizes who his true friends are and he really begins to grow into his own.  This tale is a unconventional love story.  The love story is not only one of romance but also about the friends that he acquires during his self exploration.

At times I lost interest with all the inner dialogue within the book but in the end I'm glad I stayed with it to the end so I could see Neil find his pot of gold and the end of his rainbow.
