Bound (Mastered #1)

FIRST IN A NEW SERIES

In the new Mastered series by New York Times bestselling author Lorelei James, a woman’s desire to shatter her inhibitions leaves her unprepared for where that erotic journey will take her….

Former small-town girl Amery Hardwick is living her dream as a graphic designer in Denver, Colorado. She’s focused on building her business, which leaves little time for dating—not that she needs a romantic entanglement to fulfill her. When her friend signs up for a self-defense class as part of her recovery after an attack, Amery joins her for support. That’s where she meets him.

Ronin Black, owner of the dojo, is so drawn to Amery that he takes over her training—in public and in private. The enigmatic Ronin pushes Amery’s boundaries from the start, and with each new tryst, Amery becomes addicted to the pleasure and to him. But when Amery senses Ronin is hiding something, she questions her total trust in him, despite the undeniable thrill of his possession….

My Review...

Hmmm from Cowboys to erotic rope masters Lorelei James has done it again.  In this series we have a small town girl and a silent intriguing sensei.

Amery wants to help her friend by going to self defense classes at the local dojo.  Here she gets the notice from the dojo sensei.  The chemistry between the two is off the charts from the very beginning.  Amery was raised by a preacher family with strong values which has given her present day conflictions with her sexualty.

With the help of Ronin he opens up this gem in the rough to her fullest potential.  The more Amery blossoms and grows the more Ronin keeps secret.

As there exploration comes to a peak Amery has to come to turns with her sensuality by completing giving in to Ronin which only heightens their passion and chemistry.

As their relationship progresses Amery's friends start to warn her that she really doesn't know Ronin but could her love be blinding the obvious.

With Amery as her personal relationship is progressing her business life is having the opposite. A last minute life line is given to help her with her business but it also comes with a truth that destroys everything.  With this truth also comes another cliffhanger. Grrrrrr! Now we have to wait till March for Unwound to see everything unfolds for Amery and Ronin.  Besides the waiting aspect I really did enjoy the book as well as the chemistry between the two.

My Review...

FINALLY we get Wyatt and Lacey's heartbreaking story.

So as Wyatt is trying to deal with the after effects of war the one thing he has as a constant is Lacey until Lacey breaks up with him for no reason.  This pushes Wyatt way OVER the edge which causes him to go on a downward spiral.

For Lacey all she needs is rules, structure and Wyatt.  But trying to do the right thing is not always the easiest.  Lacey is just such so innocent and pure.  There is so much about her that just melts your heart.

For Wyatt and Lacey it is a struggle to find balance with their own issues and trying to make 'just' friends work.
Secrets always have a way of coming out at the exact moment you wish they wouldn't
Once the green light is given you think it will be smooth sailing but NOPE this is when the shit hits the fan but you know that their bond is beautiful  and strong so it should be able to survive anything.

I LOVE the way Wyatt treats Lacey well expect when he has his asshole moments but they are pretty warranted.  The way he helps her is so heartbreakingly beautiful.  I love the connection and love between these two.  The struggles that the two of them have to deal with to find a slice of happiness is heartbreaking yet it feels so real.

This book in the series is by far my favorite of the series but my only complaint which has nothing to do with the writing but it drives me CRAZY when the main storyline is miscommunication after miscommunication after miscommunication.  Things could have been SOOOOOOO much smoother and happier if they actually you know talked to one another instead of assuming and misjudging situations.  Besides that personal frustration I really have enjoyed the series and my fingers are crossed that there will be more and we get to find out about Parker and Beau.

I'm supposed to share interesting details about myself so that my readers get to know me so here we go in no particular order: I'm an natural redhead even though I haven't seen my real hair color in years, I'm a big fan of tattoos and have a half sleeve on either arm and various other pieces all over the place, I've been in the bar industry since I was in college and it has always offered interesting insight into how men and women interact with each other, I have 3 dogs that are all crazy, I live in Colorado and love the snow, I love music and in all reality wish I could be a rock star not a writer or a bartender but I have zero talent so there is that. I love to write, love to read and all I'm interested in is a good story with interesting characters that make the reader feel something. Thanks for taking the time to check my stuff out...

Reaper's Legacy (Reapers MC #2)

by
WELCOME TO THE CLUB

Eight years ago, Sophie gave her heart—and her virginity—to Zach Barrett on a night that couldn’t have been less romantic or more embarrassing. Zach’s step-brother, a steely-muscled, tattooed biker named Ruger, caught them in the act, getting a peep show of Sophie he’s never forgotten.

She may have lost her dignity that fateful night, but Sophie also gained something precious—her son Noah. Unfortunately, Zach’s a deadbeat dad, leaving Ruger to be Noah’s only male role model. When he discovers Sophie and his nephew living in near poverty, Ruger takes matters into his own hands—with the help of the Reapers Motorcycle Club—to give them a better life.

Living with outlaw bikers wasn’t Sophie’s plan for her son, but Ruger isn’t giving her a choice. He’ll be there for Noah, whether she wants him or not. But Sophie does want him, has always wanted him. Now she’ll learn that taking a biker to bed can get a girl dirty in every way…

My Review...

Oh! Boy Joanna Wylde may be my new favorite for my MC boys.  She hit gold with 'Horse" and I wasn't sure if that was going to be a fluke but let me tell you it DEFINITELY was not because she hit another home run with 'Ruger'.

The minute Ruger meets Sophie he was taken with her but two things held him back. 1) He was his half brother's girl and 2) He is not the type of man to settle down with an Old lady.  He prefers being a ladies man.

When Sophie loses her virginity she doesn't get the romance story perfection instead she gets Zach's brother walking in on her in the 'act' as well as she gets pregnant.

Since Zach ends up being the king of douche bags, Ruger ends up picking up the slack and being the role model that Noah, Sophie's son needs.
"I'd rather you sleep naked." "I'd rather you go fuck yourself, but seeing as that's not an option, can I borrow something to wear?"
Sophie has always had a crush on Ruger but getting together could ruin their friendly relationship with Noah as their center.  The chemistry between the two is off the charts and can't be denied but Sophie wants more than Ruger can give.  Sophie is also skeptical about the Reaper MC.  Ruger wants Sophie more than anything but can't promise her fidelity.  For the sake of Noah Sophie needs it all or nothing.  For Ruger if you want him you also want his MC club.

Sophie and Ruger are at odds with their wants but they also can't deny each other.  As Sophie and Ruger give into their needs Sophie gets caught up in the dangerous world of the MC which just solidifies her dislike to this lifestyle while at the same time Ruger realizes what is the most important thing to him... which is Sophie.

The is a tug-a-war love story in the middle of the MC world where in the end all that matters is love and family.   I LOVED Ruger and especially his 'tattoo' story *sigh*.  This series is seriously awesome and maybe just maybe why I loves this story is because there is a man named Horse whom I may love who was a big part of this story.

"...I'm serious. No patch, no dick." "Okay," I said. "Seriously?" "Yeah, seriously," I replied. "Don't look so surprised. You got a really nice dick, babe."

If you want an alpha tattooed bad boy of the MC then this is the series for you.

Believe (True Believers #3)

by
Robin used to be a party girl… until she got black out drunk and woke up in bed with her best friend's boyfriend. Now she's faced with being THAT girl, and couldn't be more disgusted with herself. She can't even tell her friends the reason for her sudden sobriety and she avoids everyone until she meets Phoenix—quiet, tattooed, and different in every way that's good and oh, so bad…

Phoenix is two days out of jail when he meets Robin at his cousin's house, and he knows that he has no business talking to her, but he's drawn to her quiet demeanor, sweet smile, and artistic talent. She doesn't care that he's done time, or that he only has five bucks to his name, and she supports his goal to be a tattoo artist.

But Phoenix knows Robin has a secret, and that it's a naïve dream to believe that his record won't catch up with them at some point. Though neither is prepared for the explosive result when the past collides with the present…

My Review...

After reading Sweet Book 2 I was dying to find out the secret behind Robin's sudden change.

By the end of the summer , Jessica drags Robin out of hiding to help freshen up the Mann household via some art from Robin.  When Robin arrives at the Mann house she meets Phoenix who is Tyler and Riley's cousin who is fresh out of jail.

Robin and Phoenix are polar opposites but they both have their own emotional baggage which creates a bit of a bond between the two.  For Robin she makes the worst decision being under the influence while Phoenix is dealing with some anger parenting issues.

This unlikely duo become instant friends and quickly learn to rely on one another because the last thing they want to do is be alone.  Their very quickly escalating relationship has highs and lows which brings their baggage to the surface.  Once the secrets come out its how you deal with the aftermath that is the reality. For Robin coping is not her strength which could push Phoenix away.

I really do like this series and the Mann boys but the thing that got me was the falling in love soooooo quickly which for me lost part of the strength and connection between the two. I felt it weakened the bond versus made it stronger.  The author does address this situation and the reason for this quick emotion and for some they will go ga ga over it but for others it may effect the story line.  Otherwise a super sweet read and a good NA series.

The Replacement by Rachael Wade
Publication date: January 27th 2014
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult

Synopsis:
*Contains sexually explicit content and mature subject matter, including language and elements of abuse.*

A gritty New Adult drama about a young woman’s self-destructive quest to find purpose, self-worth, and love in a broken world.

My name is Elise Duchamp. I’m twenty-three years old and I’m known as the town whore.

No, not the kind who exchanges sexual favors for money. The other kind. The kind who gives it all away for free, whenever and however she likes. I am that girl. The one everyone whispers about and the one none of the girls seem to like, because all of their boyfriends either want to sleep with me or already have. Promiscuity is my thing—the kind that slowly, violently turns my insides black, but gives me something I need.

All things considered, I’m not completely reckless. I’m safe, and contrary to popular opinion, I do have a heart. I live in a world of careless choices, and with those choices come careless people. I cannot judge them, because I am one of them. I too bow down to the altar of the self-serving. I am not a good friend. I am not and never could be anyone’s girlfriend. I’m convinced any goodness in me shriveled up and died long ago.

But I am a replacement. That is something I know how to be, and this is a story of the lengths I’d go to in order to keep it that way.

My Review...

This book had me go through a plethora of emotions reading Elise's journey. It's amazing the damage words can do. The choices Elise makes because of self hate and lack of self worth are astonishing.

Elise 's character will not be for all. Some will hate her, some will relate to her, some will feel sorry for her and some will be neutral. Words have broken Elise. She believes she doesn't deserve happiness and all she has to own his her beauty so she uses it as a weapon.
"You just want to hurt people, because you've been hurt."
Elise is hurt so she hurts people back and doesn't let anyone in until Ryder and then eventually Natalie. With Ryder she loses her heart but doesn't know how to accept her happiness so she self sabatoges it.  When she finally realizes she wants friends she reaches out to Natalie and for a brief moment she is happy with this friendship and Ryder.  Then the consequences to her actions rear their ugly heads and she does the ultimate action that finally destroys everything.
"For the record, I knew you were broken. Not like it was a secret. I wanted to know you anyways."
Watching her destroy her happiness was hard to read. You want to shake her and you scream for her not to make her bad choices because you know the consequences are going to be big.
"It's more than typical daddy issues,"

For Ryder he likes to fix pretty broken things. You realize that he has the patience of a saint and a heart of gold to be able to forgive and wait out Elise's journey not knowing that she will pick him in the end.
"We all have a past, Elise. Sometimes we don't like where the road takes us; sometimes it leads us exactly where we need to be. I don't regret my past, and I don't give a damn about yours. All I care about is this."
"Go ahead. Give me all you've got. Rip my fucking heart out if that's what you need to do. But it won't change this. I love you and I know you love me."
This is not your typical love story but it does of a happy ending. It's a journey and evolution of a severely broken girl trying to heal and find her worth and her happiness

Life's too short, and love's too good to pass up for some sham deal. You don' think there's something better out there? You're wrong. I know because I found it-the real stuff-and I'm the last person on the damn planet who deserves it. If the universe can hand me some, it sure as hell can hand some to you. Besides it's not a matter of deserving. It's a matter of respect. Unconditional grace.

4 Not your typical beautiful Thumbs Up!
