The Moment Before Blog Tour - Review

Inline image 1Synopsis
“Don’t get me wrong. I loved my sister. I never, not once, wished her dead.”

Brady and Sabine Wilson are sisters born eleven months apart, but they couldn’t be more different. Popular Sabine, the head cheerleader dating the high school hunk, seems to have all the luck, while her younger, artsy sister "Brady Brooder" is a loner who prefers the sidelines to the limelight.

After Sabine dies in a horrific cheerleading accident, grief unravels Brady and her family. Once recognized for her artistic talent, 17-year-old Brady finds herself questioning the value of everything she once held dear. Her best friend betrays her. Her parents’ marriage is crumbling. And the boy everyone blames for the accident seems to be her only ally in the search for answers in the wake of her sister’s death. As an unlikely friendship emerges, Brady learns more about Sabine—and love—than she bargained for.
Praise for Suzy Vitello:
"What I love most about reading Suzy’s stories is that I feel like I am inside the world of her characters so deeply that I start talking aloud to them. They are my friends, my sisters, my mother, my lovers, my husbands and ex-husbands and daughters and sons.  I could stay inside her stories and not come out." - Lidia Yuknavitch, author of The Chronology of Water and Dora: A Head Case

"To read Suzy Vitello’s work is like sneaking a look at a complicated diary—compelling, funny, sometimes terrifying in the hard details of humanity." -Monica Drake, author of Clown Girl and The Stud Book

"Suzy Vitello writes like the sweet, smart, sassy person I aspire to be. Her stories are full of mystery and longing and the endless and varied complexities of ten thousand kinds of love. She’s never written a page that didn’t make me ache for another one. Her work is sheer must-gobble-it-up." -Cheryl Strayed, author of Wild and Tiny Beautiful Things

My Review...

Hmmm. I really did like this book. It was refreshing and non formulatic.

This book is about grief and the after effects of death.
Shackle me, drag me away, but you can't have my spirit...
For Brady her 'perfect' older sister dies in a tragic cheer leading accident. After the death Brady is having a hard time coping with this loss and the effects it's causing on her family.

Brady is trying to hold on to who she thought Sabine was but with the enlisted help of her supposed killer, Brady finds out the truth an so much more.

After learning the truth, Brady now is keeping Sabine's secrets as well as her own.
"Grief is a strange animal, Brady. It hovers and hovers and then it sees something and dives down."
The after effect is too much for her parents and with their coping mechanisms they break Brady's heart more by making her stop hanging out with Conner.

For a young girl who is trying to fix her broken family agrees and gives up her heart.

But when shit hits the fan and secrets come to a head she turns to the ever steady Conner who saves the day.

With this book I felt it was building up to something big but at the most pivotal point I felt it fell a bit flat and felt all the details got cleared up or swept away way to quickly. Now the ending! Grrrr! I have to admit I like cleaner happier endings but this one is left open and more of a coming of age type ending.

In the end the book was good and dealt with many elements of grief, finding ones true self and new love. I've never had to deal with that loss and especially at such a young age but the author did have me reeled into the world of Brady and how she was coping and dealing.

3 Grieving Thumbs up!
