Devil's Game (Reapers MC #3)

by
Liam “Hunter” Blake hates the Reapers MC. Born and raised a Devil’s Jack, he knows his duty. He’ll defend his club from their oldest enemies—the Reapers—using whatever weapons he can find. But why use force when the Reapers’ president has a daughter who’s alone and vulnerable? Hunter has wanted her from the minute he saw her, and now he has an excuse to take her.

Em has lived her entire life in the shadow of the Reapers. Her overprotective father, Picnic, is the club’s president. The last time she had a boyfriend, Picnic shot him. Now the men in her life are far more interested in keeping her daddy happy than showing her a good time. Then she meets a handsome stranger—a man who isn't afraid to treat her like a real woman. One who isn't afraid of her father. His name is Liam, and he’s The One.

Or so she thinks.

My Devil's Game Review ...

Let's start with I love this series!!!

In the last book we met Liam ' Hunter' Blake and we know something went on with Em we just weren't sure what happened.  Now we get to find out how it all played out.

I think with this book I found Em more kick ass then the other heroine's but I did find Hunter a bit less bad ass then the others. I don't know why I did and I know a lot will disagree with me on this but 'hey I'm allowed my own opinion'.

In Devil's Game it is the MC version of Romeo and Juliet.  Where Hunter whom is a Devil's Jack which happens to be the enemy of the Reaper's MC falls for the Reapers President's  daughter Em.  Em knows she shouldn't be with Hunter but the heart wants what the heart wants.

For the first time someone makes her feel like a wanted woman instead of the Reapers president's daughter.  With this union comes a big ol' shit storm that threatens to cause a big war between the MC's.  To get past this, egos need to be dropped and the men have to listen and keep an open mind because there is weakness everywhere in the ranks, causing a world of trouble.

There was MC alphas, drama, kick ass heroine and a great love story which to me always makes a great MC book for me.

One-night stands are supposed to be with someone convenient, or wickedly persuasive, or regrettable. They aren’t supposed to be with someone like him.

But after a crazy Vegas weekend celebrating her college graduation—and terrified of the future path she knows is a cop-out—Mia Holland makes the wildest decision of her life: follow Ansel Guillaume—her sweet, filthy fling—to France for the summer and just…play.

When feelings begin to develop behind the provocative roles they take on, and their temporary masquerade adventures begin to feel real, Mia will have to decide if she belongs in the life she left because it was all wrong, or in the strange new one that seems worlds away

Lauren Billings (but everyone calls her Lo) has a Ph.D. in neuroscience and before she made writing her full-time job, would spend her days doing nerdy research-type things wearing a lab coat and goggles. She is silly Mommy to two littles, wife to one mountain biking homebrewing scientist, bestie to a shoe-stealer, and an unabashed lover of YA and romance.
Christina Hobbs (but you’ll always hear Lo call her PQ) used to spend her days in a junior high counseling office surrounded by teenagers. My Sweet Filthy Boy Review ...

So, I did like this one and especially Ansel. *sigh* It just unfortunately wasn't my favorite from the duo of Christina Lauren.

Things that I loved:

  • Ansel
  • Ansel 's flirty ways
  • Ansel's dirty talking

  • The role playing

  • The banter between Mia, Harlow and Lola

  • Paris

  • Vegas

The things that were meh to me:

  • The last part of the book.  I felt it was a bit rushed and a tad anti-climatic.

  • Mia ( I felt she was a bit too immature and she left me wanting more from her)

However, it was very typical Christina Lauren book and you were left with fun, naughty, sexy, angst and love.

My Review ...

I LOVED Hooked, so I was super excited to read this book but sadly I have to admit that I did not love this book as much.  It was well written but I didn't connect to Sam and Riley like I did to Fred & Ryan.

I truly did love Sam but with Riley she just didn't do it for me, which caused me not to get wrapped into the story as much as I did with Hooked.  What I can say though is I truly do love Liz Fichera and how she writes.  I love her tapping into the Native American issues which is a culture not often found in fiction especially YA.  I also feel like Liz does capture the essence of YA issues and gets to the heart of the matter.

For Riley, she doesn't quite know where she fits in which causes her tons of internal conflict.

For Sam, who has the biggest heart, he wants the best for his people but sometimes gets jaded when he doesn't see eye to eye on matters.

The two are the most unlikely pair but end up being the thing that they both need the most.

I felt Sam, turn around of feelings from Fred to Riley was a bit too quick to fully envelop the idea of it and for Riley and how she handled things drove me batty.  But that is me looking at this book from an adult to YA.  For the YA readers they will most likely relate to the drama whole heartedly.

In the end I did like the book I just didn't love it.  It is always hard when you have expectations from one book to another. If I had never read Hooked I probably would have LOVED this book because I had no basis of expectations.

A heartwarming novel about friendship, family, and finding love in the Facebook Age-the perils, pitfalls, and dubious pleasures of being a modern young single woman-from Erin Duffy, the author of Bond Girl

Six months ago, Abby's life fell apart for all the world to see. Her longtime boyfriend-turned-fiancé, Ben, unceremoniously dumped her-on Facebook-while she was trying on dresses for the big day.

She and Abby are going to spend the summer in Newport, in a quaint cottage by the sea, enjoying cool breezes, cocktails, and a crowd of gorgeous men.

But no matter how far away they go, Abby and Grace discover that in the era of social media-when everyone is preserving every little detail of their lives online-there is no real escape. My Review ...

So, I didn't love it but I also didn't hate it. However, saying that I KNOW a lot of woman will like this.  If you have been dumped or trying to get over someone than this book will fit the bill.

The parts I liked were: Bobby, Wolf, the banter between Bobby and Abby, the comradery of friendship, the sarcasm, the idea of the book, and the being able to move on.
"That's the difference between guys and girls. Girls, if rejected, will wonder what's wrong with them. Guys, if rejected, will wonder, what's wrong with the girl who isn't interested. You need to think more like a guy."
The parts that grated me a bit were that sometimes Abby came across as desperate and whiny and other times she came out like a hero.

In the end it is about how Abby deals with her breakup and what it takes to move on and heal through the obstacles of the social media.  It is also about friendship and how important that support system is.  Again, I liked the idea of the book, I don't know if I wasn't in the mood for it or what,  which caused me not to like it as much or the fact that I am a HEA junkie and there wasn't one.  It was more of an open ended ending where the sky is the limit.  Which to some they prefer that ending but that is not me.

Let it Ride (Pickup Men #2)

by
Pickup man Bridge Sullivan is the kind of cowboy everyone wants—as a brother, a friend, a lover. People think he’s straight, but Bridge isn’t one for labels, and when a sexy male paramedic jumpstarts his heart, he charges in with all guns blazing.

New York City transplant Eric Palmer grew up in foster care. While he always had a roof over his head, he never felt love or a sense of belonging . . . until he joined the California rodeo circuit as a paramedic and found a band of brothers who took him in as one of their own. Now, one in particular is making Eric’s pulse race.

When things heat up between Bridge and Eric, Bridge has to prove to Eric he’s not just experimenting with the rougher sex, while Eric must overcome his fears of being unwanted and cast aside. He knows that trusting Bridge may be the key to his happy ever after, but getting in the saddle is much, much easier than learning to let it ride.

My Review ...

Meeting Bridge in Pickup Men you knew something was going on with him but not the full story.  Now we get to learn that what he's hiding is that he fancies Eric.

With Eric he was a great addition to these pickup men but what we didn't know was that he had issues through the wazoo
"I'll never be anyone's one."
Eric doubts Bridge's jump into MM loving, but Bridge knows what he wants which is Eric and only Eric.

Even though Bridge is committed, Eric's demons are too much too handle.
Too much of a coward to put his heart on the line, he'd broken Bridge's instead
Eric has to find his self worth to accept the love that Bridge is willing to give.

This was a sweet book, and I totally understood Eric's issues but at times I got quite frustrated with his insecurities and wanted him just to buck up and be in the moment and appreciate all that Bridge could offer.   I did like this book but I will admit that I did prefer the first book better.

My Review ...

Those Wilde boys seem shit deep in layers of secrets and lies.

After finally River and Dahlia getting their HEA we finally get to find out what has been the bug up Xander's ass for the last couple of books which is .... Ivy Taylor.

Poor Xander always doing the right thing in return it left him a bit heartless and lonely until 12 years later when he comes face to face with Ivy and then all hell breaks loose.

In Kim Karr flare this book had all kinds of twist and turns and layer after layer of the tangled web of the lives of the Wilde's.

But with these layers comes more loss and heartbreak for all involved.  However, it also brings happiness and the chance at love for others.

I originally thought Xander was a bit of a douche but he came out sparkly sweet and loving in this book.  The real douche in this book is ... Damon Wolf.

The Wilde's have lived through a lot and the web keeps getting more and more layered once all the secrets are getting unfolded.  Next we get to find out where Bell has been disappearing to all the time.  I really do adore this series and can't wait for more.
