Combative (Combative #1)

We all play victims to our pasts; to the choices we make and the lives we create.
They define who we are.
And sometimes if we're lucky enough, the past stays where it belongs: in the past.
I'm not one of the lucky ones.
I never have been.
Because now the past is knocking on my door, offering deals I have no choice but to take… deals that will help bring justice—not just for me, but for my brothers.

The problem?
The deal is a ticking time bomb.
One I didn't know existed.

Tick.
Tock.

My Combative Review . . .

It has felt like forever since I read a Jay McLean book and I knew it would not disappoint, especially after reading the synopsis.  I was hooked immediately trying to figure out all the elements.  It was brilliantly done with the vagueness keeping us holding on, while waiting for just any little tid bit of information, so we can know what is actually going on.

"Why would you do that, Ky?"
"Because you don't deserve to live in a world without color."

The book is about a boy who has lost almost everything.  He has no hope.  All he has is shame and guilt.  Then he meets a girl and things start to change.  His past comes to haunt and help him, but we are never truly certain what is helping or hindering.  Then this girl rocks his world but his past sins are forcing him into a not great situation.  This girl has many secrets but he thinks its worth it, but what are the motives of this girl?

The boy and girl have a bit of an unhealthy bond but it seems to work for them. Now the past is having momentum causing all kinds of issues.  What we don't know is this bond real or not?  Only time will tell or of course reading on with Redemptive.

"I don't think it's our pasts that define us, and it's not even our life's final destination.  It's everything we do in between, the actual living, that creates who we are."

I think this is going to be a series that you're going to have to experience on one's own instead of reading reviews.  Reviews may give too much away which would ruin the reading journey of this story.   This book is chalk full of tons of secrets and half truths that we are never truly certain what's going on.  The more we learn the more we get hooked.  Even though at the back of your mind, you think the ending is coming, but once the cliff hanger happens we're left with needing to know so much more.  If you read the sneak peak of Redemptive, then you will quickly find out, that you HAVE TO READ it immediately to find out how this whole story is going to unfold.  Because now what I thought was going on isn't or is it?  Soon we will find out.  March and Redemptive can't come soon enough.

4 I need Redemptive immediately thumbs up!
