Heartbreaker (Unbreakable #1)

by

Kiki Michaelson wants one wild night to forget her starving-artist worries. Simple.

Only instead of Darren Cole becoming her one-night stand, he taunts her with a challenge. Then while she’s trying to best him at his own game, he turns out to be the last thing she’s prepared for: someone she wants to keep.

Which means all he can ever be…is a friend.

Darren Cole never allows a girl to get close—not close enough to matter.

Then storms in Kiki Michaelson, a beautiful, fearless temptation that rocks his world off-balance. But he fights their attraction, unwilling to gamble something physical with their close ties. Until the passionate sculptor exposes her heart and breaks his wide open.

In that moment it becomes clear: she could never be just a friend.

Sometimes what you run from…is exactly what you need.

***HEARTBREAKER is a standalone, full-length new adult romance told in dual POV. Due to mature themes and adult language, this book is for those 18 and older.***

My Heartbreaker Review . . .

So, this was my first Kat and Stone Bastion book and it was a good read,  a bit predictable but solid.  Kiki Michaelson is a strong independent woman and artist but all she can afford is a one night stand.  Her target . . . Darren Cole.

Darren Cole is a strong man who keeps things close to his vest but knows he can't give into a relationship because it could risk everything.   But can he resist Kiki?

At first Kiki offers Darren a one night no strings night, but Darren turns her down.  However, Darren is intrigued by her so keeps her close with a friends only trail running relationship.  A bit random but worked within the story.

The closer they become their worlds collide causing them to really see each other.  When we find out Darren's back story your heart hurts for him but you understand why he's making certain choices.  However, with Kiki and her I can't ever love again I was expecting a real zinger of a back story so when we got to her why, I was all 'that's it, that's why she's a no relationship girl, because of that?'.  I will admit I was a bit disappointed with the minimal past causing so much hurt for Kiki.

Once Darren realizes what Kiki is to him and his life he fights for it, but now all he has to do is convince stubborn Kiki, which is a lot harder then it should be.
"We fight harder to keep what we want."

As both finally give in the past and present collide causing much inner conflict and reactive decisions and predictable heartbreak.

This book was solid and good.  There were some elements that I wanted more from but overall I was pleased with the story.  It wasn't one of those stories that imprinted on my heart but it was still good enough for me to continue with this series.

3 Solid Thumbs up!
