Synopsis
He’s Paxton Wilder.   Twenty-two-year-old, tattooed, smoking-hot leader of the Renegades.   Five time X Games medalist.   The world is his playground—especially this year—and for the next nine months I’m stuck as his tutor on the Study at Sea program.   He’s too busy staging worldwide stunts for his documentary to get to class.   But if I can’t get him to take academics seriously, I’ll lose my scholarship…if I don’t lose my heart first.   Six unlikely friends on a nine-month cruise with the Study at Sea program will learn that chemistry is more than a subject and the best lessons aren’t taught in the classroom…but in the heart.

Part 1 in a new series

My Wilder Review . . .

I fell absolutely in love with Rebecca Yarros's stories with the Flight & Glory series, so when given the chance to read the first part in this new series as I jumped at the chance.

Wilder is the first part in this new Renegades Series.   Wilder revolves around Paxton Wilder and Eleanor (Leah) Baxter.  Paxton is the risk taking, adrenaline junkie.  Where Leah is the more straight and narrow type of girl, but she wasn't always like that.

"Well, I actually kinda like you, so that's enough for me.  Then again, I've always liked firecrackers."
Leah gets the chance of a life time to finish her schooling while traveling the world.  The only catch is she has to tutor a student and her marks are dependent on this student.  How hard should that be?

"Don't worry, he says," she muttered.  "Safe, he says.  Asshole."
Leah quickly realizes that this tutoring relationship is going to be much harder than originally thought, especially after Paxton's lifestyle makes her face her worst fears.

Paxton is not the committal type of guy but there is something about Leah that makes him want different things.

"I don't know what to do.  She's not like the others."
"The good ones never are, and they don't usually give second chances, either, so don't fuck it up if you're serious."

It doesn't take to long before these two give in to each other and the possibility of more.

"Being a gentleman, I'll make sure you'll come first, second, even third, if you're up for it.  After that, all bets are off as to gentlemanly behavior in my bed."

However, Leah is a tough nut to crack, but Pax is up to the challenge.  Leah has walls up, but for a reason.  Now all Pax has to do is find out why, so he can break her walls down.

I had to treat our relationship like I did everything else: with full dedication and concentration.  As of this moment, I was committed, and I'd never failed at something I worked for.
Eleanor Baxter wouldn't know what hit her.

Paxton Wilder has a huge heart once he finally lets love in, and now Leah gets to experience all that is Pax with his sweet love.

"But you need to know what I don't need to remember you, Leah.  Not when I have zero intention of letting you go."
When we find out Leah's past, its a bit heartbreaking, but watching her face her fears and move forward is a joy to watch.

I was wholly, deeply. irreversibly in love with a woman who was way braver than I could ever be.
From the beginning we know that both Leah and Paxton have their secrets.  First Leah's is unfolded but the further we get into the book the more curious we are about Pax's secret.  The longer it got drawn out the more I was expecting from this secret.

"Maybe your love doesn't, because it's perfect.  You are basically perfect, Leah.  But my love is messy, imperfect, makes mistakes, and is overwhelmingly selfish, because I need you.  I need you more than air in my lungs or even the Renegades.  So yes, I'm in love with you, and maybe you don't like that because you can't control it, but it's the truth.  You can choose not to forgive me for this-I'd understand-but you can't stop me from loving you."

There was a lot of angst built up around Paxton's secret but after the reveal I was left with a 'that's it' why didn't he just tell Leah from the beginning.  If he did there would have been a very minimal issue.  When secrets get dragged out in books I expect something bigger, so when this was more meh then wow I was left wanting more from the secret especially with the angsty build up toward the reveal.

Thankfully this wasn't the only story line within the story.  In the end Paxton's secret was quite small and the rest of the story was filled with suspense, humor, loss, hope, love and second chances.  After reading Wilder I can't wait for more.  Nova which is based on Landon and Rachel can't come soon enough.

4 Risk Taking Thumbs up!
