NOT QUITE PERFECT
Not Quite Series, Book Five
Montlake Romance, Contemporary
September 20, 2016, First Edition
Paperback & Kindle

Mary Kildare knows how to read people. It’s both why she makes a great therapist and why she refuses to trust the average bachelor. Staying fiercely independent has been her primary relationship strategy—until wealthy playboy pilot (and commitmentphobe) Glen Fairchild reappears in her life. After a yearlong teasing tug-of-war, Mary and Glen test the waters of attraction, only to find that their physical chemistry runs deeper than flirtation.
At first, a bicoastal romance suits them both—especially since Glen can swoop in and whisk Mary away on one of his company’s planes. But no matter how close they get, they’re still three thousand miles apart. And when Mary’s life is threatened, Glen realizes the one luxury he doesn’t have is time. Can he close the distance between them before it’s too late?

Part 5 of an ongoing series but can be read as a standalone

My Not Quite Perfect Review . . .

I adore Catherine Bybee and her sweet yet suspenseful stories.  This book is technically part of a series but can be read as a standalone.  I've only read half of this series and not once have I ever felt lost.

Mary is Dakota's best friend and first met Glen Fairchild in Not Quite Forever.  Of course sparks flew but her counselor self knows a player when she sees one, so she let that idea go.  To keep their attractions at bay they tend to have a love-hate relationship with one another.

"It would have been the chivalrous thing to do."
"On a date, maybe . . . but don't hold your breath . . in a hospital gift shop.  No way, babe.  It's like a Bluelight Special at Kmart.  Every man for himself."

Now a year later and Glen finds a reason to place himself into Mary's life.  Glen's not the dating type but something about Mary is different, so he gives this dating thing a try.

"You didn't get laid." "Oh my God, Dakota." Mary expected nothing less from her friend. "Why?" "It was our first date." "A long-awaited first date.  And you haven't had sex since Jesus was a lad."
For someone who doesn't date Glen is quite good at dating.  And when Mary's life starts to be in danger he commits to staying.   Mary has a bit of a chip on her shoulder and doesn't ask for help.  It's because she's not used to it, but when strange things start to happen to her, she realizes that she has to learn to accept help because the people around her want to give it to her with no strings.
"In case you haven't noticed, you don't accept any help without the other person demanding it."
The journey of Mary and Glen was sweet.  The banter between all the characters was great.  The suspense kept me on my toes and kept me guessing from the few choices of suspects.   While we watched Mary and Glen fall in love we also got to see of the growth of these two characters.  I love the combo of sweet and suspense and Catherine does such a fantastic job at this task.

4 Sweet and Suspenseful thumbs up!
