Not a Game: A Contemporary Gay Romance Novel

A new job, a new city, and hopefully a new life. When chubby gamer Oliver Barnaby receives a job offer from the best boutique game developer in the country, he leaves his family and his less than spectacular existence in Oklahoma without a second's hesitation. Determined to change more than his career and his geography, Oliver implements a plan to finally land a boyfriend. Step one is improving his skills in the bedroom.
Attractive, successful, charismatic Jaime Snow has a life other people envy. His already booming business is growing. He isn't lacking friends. And he has no trouble finding a date. But there's an emptiness in Jaime's heart and a hole in his life that only the right man can fill.
When Oliver and Jaime end up at the same bar at the same time, they each see something they want in the other. Going to bed together that first night is easy. Building the lifetime relationship they both desperately crave will require trust, time, and a little understanding.

My Not A Game Review . . .

When I want a sweet MM romance Cardeno C. is ALWAYS my go to for that.  And with Not A Game C.C.  has delivered another super sweet story.

Oliver Barnaby is an overweight, and a bit insecure man whom has just moved to a new city for his job.  Which is one of the things he's great at.  However, with this new start Oliver is determined to learn how to win over a man.

Now committed to this new choice to learn, Oliver finds himself at a bar waiting for his 'teacher'.  At the same bar Jaime Snow sees a super attractive bigger man whom right away makes his heart swell and even more when he finds this stranger reading his book.

Jaime and Oliver immediately click, which is strange for Oliver since he never can talk to men properly.   The reason for this is a mixed identity.  For Jaime, he knows Oliver thinks he's someone else but he won't lose this change to get to know Oliver better.

As Oliver starts to come into himself you get to see the fun loving man that he is.

" . . . I have a personal rule that my cell doesn't come into the gym with me."
"That's a coincidence.  I have that rule too."  Oliver paused and his lip twitched.  "I also have a rule where  I don't go anywhere without my phone.  I don't violate either of them."

At first Oliver doesn't trust that someone like Jaime could like someone like him, but the more time he spends with Jaime the easier it is for him to believe.  Especially when Jaime treats him like gold.  I absolutely adored this story.  It was super sweet and filled with love and happiness.

I liked the fact that this book didn't have over the top drama filled with angst and miscommunications.  Instead when the truth finally came out they both handled it like adults.  Took a deep breath and talked it out.  Viola!  No unnecessary angst to fill up the pages instead Oliver and Jaime had enough on their own without all the drama that is included in many other romance novels.
Now as for the Audio part of this review.   I have to admit that I liked the written version better than the audio version this time around.  I think voices can make or break a story and this narrator just didn't quite do it for me.  The more I listened the more Michael's narration grew on me but he didn't end up completely winning me over.

If I was reviewing the written version I would give it a 4 out of 5 but with the Audio version I have to only give it a 3.  I loved the story but didn't love the narration.  Sorry. :(

3 Super Sweet Thumbs up!
