About THE TATTERED GLOVES

Head down. Don’t look up. Never make eye contact. Those were the words I lived by growing up, the words that protected me in an unsafe home. But words are only letters and eventually even they couldn’t keep his hands off me.
Hoping to leave behind the shattered life of my past, I find myself in a boring, small town, with an aunt I’ve never met and at a school I loathe.
But soon I learn, not everything in this world is as black and white as I’ve determined. Sometimes those we are so quick to judge often need a second, third or even fourth time to make a first impression.
And often, there are friendships and even love waiting just around the corner, if we are brave enough to take the first step.
Am I brave? Or will I hide behind these tattered gloves of mine forever?

My The Tattered Glove Review . . .

From the first prologue in When you're Ready from the Ready series, J.L. Berg had me hooked with her writing. So having the ability to review her works is ALWAYS something I will jump on if given the opportunity.  It's such a neat transition watching J.L. Berg go from Adult to New Adult to now Young Adult with The Tattered Gloves.

I was the road that no one wanted to walk on.  The scary alley everyone avoided.
Because there was damaged, and then there was just plain broken.
And I was one step beyond all that.

Poor Willow and her broken soul.  You know from the beginning something tragic has happened to her but we're left waiting to find out more while Willow starts to find herself and her self worth.  The more she trusts in herself and lets people in, the more we get to find out about her past.  Which is super sad and tragic.  However, sadly most people have their own stories as well.  And this is also how Willow learns to trust again realizing she's not the only one and it's okay to trust in others.

"I don't understand?  Jesus, Willow! Haven't you heard a word I've said?  Do you really think you're the only one around here who has issues?  The only one who wishes they could put gloves on and remove themselves from the world?  To wish away emotions and feelings?"

I absolutely love all the main characters especially Willow and Sam.  But Addy and Allison are a great part of this story as well.  For Willow, she tries to push the world away but these three keep at her in the most loving way until finally she gives in to their loving ways.  The bond between Willow and Sam is just super sweet.  When growing up I wish there were more Sams around, whom are true heroes in their own way.

The story was tragic but unfortunately its real with our world today, which makes this type of story needed even more.  This is story about hope and second chances when you think there is nothing left.

I absolutely adored it and would recommend this book to any YA or Adult.   I absolutely love J.L. Berg and can't wait for more from her.

4 There is always hope thumbs up!

Rented Heart

by

Ex-surfer-turned-businessman Liam Mallaney moved back to Holkham, Norfolk, to mourn the loss of his husband. Grief and loneliness keep him a solitary figure, and he likes it that way. There’s no room in his broken heart for anything else.

Rentboy Zac Payne left London and most of his demons behind, but he still only knows one way to make a living. When he spots Liam in a club one night, it seems he’s found his mark. But Liam proves nicer—and their connection far deeper—than he’d bargained for.

Their arrangement quickly becomes too complicated for Zac, who has other things on his mind: namely his BFF and wayward flatmate, Jamie. Zac owes Jamie the world, and even as Jamie’s drug addiction destroys all they have, Zac won’t leave him behind.

Besides, Liam knows nothing of Zac’s home life, too caught up in his own head to think much beyond the crazy heat he and Zac share. But when trouble comes to Zac’s door, putting his life in danger, Liam must set his grief and anger aside to pick up the pieces of Zac’s shattered heart and his own.

My Rented Heart Review . . .

Gah!!!!! I love anything by Garrett Leigh.  So far everything I have read of Garrett's I have loved it.  And Rented Heart is another gem.  Liam Mallaney is going through the paces of life after losing his heart however that doesn't stop his loneliness.

"Don't ever be lonely, dude. There's someone worth knowing in every smile you see."
Zac Payne is just trying to survive and doing whatever is necessary to do that.   And the easiest way to live and support his best friend is to be a Rentboy.   After Liam meets Zac he's curious for sure but when he finds out Zac comes with no strings it makes it easy to say yes to his proposition.

However, it was supposed to only be a one time thing.  But for Liam it fills a void and there is something about Zac that helps heal his heart.  For Zac, he knows he's not supposed to fall for a john but he can't get Liam out of his head.

"Are you not happy, Zac?"
"Wouldn't  know."
"Oh, I think you would.  I reckon you've seen the dark side, mate, and you can't see light without the dark."

These two, both of their stories just break my heart.  I absolutely loved Liam and Zac together and I loved how accepting Liam's family is to Zac.   Starting as a rentboy you know its not going to be an easy transition to partners but for these two it was so worth the bumps and bruises along the way.

" . . . If you really see something with this . . . bloke, take it, roll with it.  Don't rent your heart out for nothing when I reckon you've both been through enough to deserve a hell of a lot more."

I absolutely adored this story.  Garrett Leigh has such a knack writing very heartfelt stories that keep you hooked from start to finish.  I can't wait to read more from Garrett.

4 Rent your Heart thumbs up!

Preppy returns in Preppy Part Two by T.M. Frazier.

NOW LIVE!

Preppy Two.jpg

Full Blurb
Preppy finds himself back in a world he once loved, but no longer recognizes. His dim smile can’t hide his inner turmoil and the people he views as family all suddenly feel like polite strangers.

Except for one person. A girl with dark eyes and even darker hair.
A girl who isn’t even an option.

At least, not anymore.

Dre can’t decide who she’s going to listen to. Her heart, her head, or her body. Because two out of those three things have her heading right back to Logan’s Beach. Closure is what she tells herself she’s seeking, but when she unlocks doors that were never meant to be opened she soon discovers that when it comes to Samuel Clearwater, closure might NEVER be an option.

This is book six in the King Series and the second part of Preppy and Dre's story.

EXCERPT

“Oh yeah?” Preppy asked, taking a step forward, crowding me in, staring deep into my eyes with an intensity that had me biting down hard on my lower lip. “Do YOU like a clean look, Doc? Or do you like it dirty? Beards. Tattoos…scars?”
Yes, I like it dirty. So dirty.
I was stunned into silence. Preppy's proximity was fucking with my brain, and I was afraid I was going to blurt out something that would dig me a deeper hole than I’d already dug for myself.  I opened my mouth to answer, but I couldn’t get the words out. Not like I needed to. Preppy answered for me. “If I remember correctly, you like it dirty. Real fucking dirty.”
He took another step. “Remember that first time? In the field? By the train tracks? Remember how I pulled your hair while I fucked you from behind and stretched you open? Remember how it felt to have me moving inside of you? How it felt when you came and screamed in my fucking ear? I do. I remember. Thought of that scream every fucking day since. It was deafening.” He chuckled and pressed his teeth against his bottom lip. He groaned, the sound shot straight to my pussy. “I can still fucking hear it now.”
So can I.
The hair on the back of my neck stood on end. “What are you doing?” I asked, trying to step around him, but he pressed his hands against the wall, caging me in. The warmth of his chest radiated onto mine. I tried to look anywhere but into his eyes, afraid of what I might see, but there wasn’t anywhere else to look. He moved even closer.
Preppy pressed his knee between my thighs, parting my legs. “Me?” he asked, with mock innocence. “I’m just reminiscing with an old friend.”
“This doesn’t feel like just reminiscing."
He stared intensely into my eyes. “No, not YET it doesn’t.” He grinned. “But it fucking will. Soon.”
