A Midsummer's Nightmare

A Midsummer's Nightmare

(YA/Mature YA)

Source: Kindle

by

Whitley Johnson's dream summer with her divorcé dad has turned into a nightmare. She's just met his new fiancée and her kids. The fiancée's son? Whitley's one-night stand from graduation night. Just freakin' great.

Worse, she totally doesn't fit in with her dad's perfect new country-club family. So Whitley acts out. She parties. Hard. So hard she doesn't even notice the good things right under her nose: a sweet little future stepsister who is just about the only person she's ever liked, a best friend (even though Whitley swears she doesn't "do" friends), and a smoking-hot guy who isn't her stepbrother...at least, not yet. It will take all three of them to help Whitley get through her anger and begin to put the pieces of her family together.

Filled with authenticity and raw emotion, Whitley is Kody Keplinger's most compelling character to date: a cynical Holden Caulfield-esque girl you will wholly care about.

My Review...

This weekend was a book weekend of teen angst. I quite liked this book and had ups and downs with Whitley but let me tell you I certainly loved Nathan.

In the beginning of the I was not sure if I was going to like Whitley. I thought she was going to be one of those whiny, spoiled rich girls who thinks her life stinks but in reality is not so bad but as the book went on you really started to feel for Whitley and her life.

It is crazy seeing how her family has completely ignored her and the only reason she acts the way she acts is for just an ounce of intention. How her Dad springs the news that he just happens to have moved and oh by the way he is engaged and has a new family is shocking, but that goodness that is the best thing that could have happened to her.

I love her friend Harrison and her new family of Nathan and Bailey. It was good to see that Nathan had the good morals and sense in wanting a real relationship and that Whitley was the one who thought more like a typical guy. I liked the journey of the two of them.

Whitely emotions are organic in the way she has to deal with how her family treats her and how she finds love and a new family and friends.

I would definitely recommend this book and give it a 4.5 thumbs up!
