Out of Play

by
Rock star drummer Bishop Riley doesn't have a drug problem. Celebrities—especially ones suffering from anxiety—just need a little help taking the edge off sometimes. After downing a few too many pills, Bishop wakes up in the hospital facing an intervention. If he wants to stay in the band, he’ll have to detox while under house arrest in Seldon, Alaska.

Hockey player Penny Jones can't imagine a life outside of Seldon. Though she has tons of scholarship offers to all the best schools, the last thing she wants is to leave. Who'll take care of her absentminded gramps? Not her mother, who can’t even be bothered to come home from work, let alone deal with their new tenants next door.

Penny’s not interested in dealing with Bishop’s crappy attitude, and Bishop’s too busy sneaking pills to care. Until he starts hanging out with Gramps and begins to see what he’s been missing. If Bishop wants a chance with the fiery girl next door, he’ll have to admit he has a problem and kick it. Too bad addiction is hard to kick…and Bishop’s about to run out of time.

My Review...

First off I am such a huge fan of Jolene and Nyrae so to have a book done by both you know its was going to be good.  Nyrae has such a gift of her male POV's and she did not disappoint with Bishop.

Bishop is a young man in the middle of huge success being a drummer of a very successful band but with this comes fame, fortune, paparazzi and stress which causes him a world of anxiety.  This anxiety leads him to seek out medical and not medical treatment which causes him to possibly lose everything.

With his denial of being an addict, he is sent to the middle of freakin' nowhere Alaska to sober up and get his shit together.

For Penny she loves three things. Hockey, Alaska and her gramps.  This is her whole world but with this comes responsibilities and the expectations of others dreams and wishes.  All she wants is to play hockey on a men's team in live in Alaska with her family. That shouldn't be to much to ask.

With the pressure from others Penny and Bishop happen on one another and are instantly drawn to together.  But Bishop's secrets and Penny's past, personal issues of loss and family drama get the best of them and rip them apart.
"Does that count for anything? I mean, I know I'll still screwed up, but the fact that I don't want to be that way anymore? Does that matter?" Gramp's hand comes down on my shoulder, and he squeezes. "It matters, son. It matters."

After facing a bleak reality and a brutal truth Bishop gets the care he needs but rips Penny's heart out in the process.  While Penny is left with a broken heart and a broken body she starts to heal inside and out.  She faces her truth and stands up for what she wants and doesn't bend to others wishes.

Once Penny is on her own feet, Bishop makes one of the hardest decisions but becomes true to himself and follows his heart.
"I'm so fucking in love with you, Penny Jones."

Great story about love, hope and second chances. I loved the emotion in this book and fell in love with Bishop and Penny.

4 Alaska loving thumbs up
