by
They can’t hide from desire…

After life as a cop in Denver leaves him burned-out, Lucas Ridgeway returns to Walkers Ford, South Dakota, to serve as their chief of police. He’s hoping to start over with a clean slate and avoid any emotional entanglements—even after his next-door neighbor kisses him senseless. Alana is passionate, dedicated, and most importantly leaving town soon. So why not have some fun?

Alana Wentworth comes from a larger-than-life political family, yet all she wanted was to be a librarian. Then after an embarrassing marriage proposal from Mr. Not-For-Her, she jumps at the chance to live her dream for a few months. She wasn't supposed to get involved with the community—or sexy, troubled Lucas. But when the time comes for Alana to put Walkers Ford behind her, she’s not ready. And Lucas may not be ready for her to go…

My Review...

This is book two of the Walker ford series but can be read as a stand alone.

In this book we have Alana who has temporarily come to town to help with their library.  While she is town she befriends Marissa (from Unforgiven) and many others.

All Alana really knows is being in the background of the lives of others but for the first time ever in this small town people start to see her for her and with this she makes a difference.

Lucas is the town chief of police who keeps people at hands reach since he lost his heart on the job, which caused him to also lose his wife.

Alana is about to return to Chicago with only a few weeks to go she wants to go home a changed person so she decides to seduce Lucas.  This seduction quickly comes to something more where at the same time Alana gets entangled with the charm and people of this small town.

I really to adore Anne Calhoun's writing but there is something about this series that doesn't sit with me I know I may get stoned to death for even having that opinion but I didn't connect with Marissa in book one and even though I loved Alana and Lucas I just didn't feel the evolution and strength of their relationship.   There were quite a few time line issues or not clear time indications that caused me some confusion which could have lead me to this conclusion.  This series was well written and I loved the idea of it and all the characters but I can't but my finger on what was missing for me I just know something was, however I will continue to read it to see if it is just me or actually the series.
