Perfectly Broken

by

Even after years of trauma therapy, Peyton still believes she’s broken. She has little desire to date or show off her natural beauty, content simply to hang out with her best friends and run her pie shop in New Orleans. But her world turns upside-down when a handsome architect and self-confessed player shows up in her shop and thinks she’s perfect, much more than the usual hook-up. While Peyton does her best to resist his charms, believing she could never be enough for him, she can’t deny the obvious heat between them. With Reed determined to have her, Peyton must decide whether to continue to hide behind her apron and baggy clothes or take a chance and share her scars with Reed, a man with a playboy reputation and scars of his own -- a dark past he can’t possibly share with Peyton, not after learning the horrors she’s endured. But if they can find a way to trust each other, and themselves, they just might be able to heal, to save each other, to live perfectly broken together.

My Perfectly Broken Review ...

It has been awhile since I read a book that has sat within my heart after I have read it.   Peyton and Reed's story has held a firm spot in my heart for awhile after reading it which is always a good sign for me.  I've been in a bit of a reading funk again lately so, this little emotional gem hit the spot for me.
"Honey, the last piece of the puzzle for you is finding strength in your sexuality again.  There is a man who'll be worth the fear, the vulnerability.  And he just might be right around the corner."
Peyton believes she is broken and not fixable after being sexually assaulted.

Reed is a player at heart and doesn't believe in love and settling down.

Peyton is seeing a unconventional therapist Dr. Lorraine (who is a complete hoot and if we all had therapists like that, I believe we would be in a better emotionally sound world).  With the help of Dr. Lorraine, Peyton starts to believe.

The moment Reed walks into her bakery everything changes. For Reed, for the first time he wants more.  For Peyton, her traitorous heart starts to flutter again for the first time in a long time.

Reed has always been a man who gets what and who he wants, well until ... Peyton.  Reed has some self doubt with his feelings because of his douche canoe of a father.  Peyton has a rocky road ahead of her from her past, Reed's past and unrequited feelings from another.

To get Peyton, Reed has to something he has never done before ...be patient.  For Peyton to trust in this potential relationship she puts Reed through so many hoops until he can prove that he is so much more than a player.

As Peyton and Reed make their way through this vulnerable relationship they both start to blossom as a couple and as individuals.  But for Peyton when things get a little to close to her heart she pushes and she pushes hard.  As Reed walks the mine field of Peyton's emotions and angst, he gets burned when he gets to close.
"Studies show that woman fall in love easier than men, but men fall harder."
When Reed screwed up Peyton way over reacted to the tenth degree while at the same time Reed's response to her blow up was so frustrating.  I couldn't believe the time delay for Peyton to get her head out of her ass and for Reed to get a bigger set of balls.

Even though their emotional angst caused me some stress and frustrations I still loved their journey.  Reed's patience and persistence pays off in the end, which is Peyton's heart.

This was a sweet emotional angst filled love story.  My favorite part of this book is Reed even with his lapse of greatness.  (Check out my next book boyfriend monday to find out more about why I love Reed so much). Reed and Peyton had a tough emotional journey but in the end it was so worth it for them and me.

This was my first Prescott Lane and definitely will not be my last.  I am so happy that I got the chance to discover Prescott and this book.

4.25  to 4.5 Reed Loving Thumbs up!
